With a mission of having research being its central part, the University of Limerick, based in Ireland, in the city of Limerick, came into existence in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education. It officially became a University, the first to even be established since Irish independence in 1922.
UL became ranked as the fourth university to attract students who attain over 500 points on the leaving certificate and it is the only college in Ireland to receive a maximum of five stars for its sports facilities. The institution identifies itself as 'the home of firsts', paving the way in providing unique education and training facilities for students. In addition, it is home to Ireland’s First Olympic-standard 50m Pool and Europe’s largest all-weather sports field complex.
Its graduate employment rate currently stands at 96%, constantly higher than the national rate and most graduates have claimed titles such as ' Journalist of the Year' and 'Graduate Employee of the Year. Part of the reason for this is the outstanding reputation and the excellent relationships UL has built with employers through a variety of partnerships and through the University’s Cooperative Education program.
This cooperative education program, allows you to be career-ready with every degree, proving you with work experience that will help you develop the skills, experience, and network connections to hit the ground when making the transition from university to the working world.
It also is one of the largest work-integrated learning programs in Europe. Limerick is also one of the most affordable cities in Ireland for student living. You can choose from various types of accommodation to suit your budget, either on campus or in neighbourhoods within a few minutes walk of the University.
There are various and broad study options whether you want to pursue an undergrad, postgrad, professional studies, or executive education, a program for professionals and organizations that aims to expand their management skills and knowledge in the areas of general business, health services, and supply chain management.
UL also has a Springboard+ program, an upskilling initiative that offers free and subsidized courses at certificate, degree, and masters levels leading to qualifications in areas where there are employment opportunities in the economy. The program is open to all employed, unemployed, and returner applicants.
