Au pairing is a perfect option if you intend on exploring another country, are ready for a culture exchange and are looking for new opportunities beyond your home country.
It is for this reason that AuPairCare has been helping young people in become au pairs in the United States for the past 30 years.
AuPairCare will assist you in matching with a family, take care of your flights to and from the USA, and once you become one of their au pairs, you will then receive a stipend, room and board, spend time with children, and have vacation time to explore America with your new friends/acquaintances.
To qualify to be an au pair in the U.S, you will need to be in the possession of the following:
- Previous childcare experience
- Be available for a 12 month position
- Good English skills (Don’t worry; your English will improve)
- A graduate of secondary school (high school) or equivalent
- Be between the ages of 18 and 26 when your program starts
- Be in good health and have no criminal record
- Have a driver’s license
- Meet U.S. entry requirements

If you meet the AuPairCare qualifications, follow the steps below to get started:
- Register and login to Au Pair Room to start your application. You'll be put you in touch with an AuPairCare representative in your country to help you along the way.
- Complete your Au Pair profile by uploading all the necessary information so that host families can begin to interview you.
- You will then have interviews set up with host families and then mutually match — the next step is your arrival to the United States!
According to AuPairCare, host families are thoroughly screened and must also pass a criminal background check.
Additionally, families must agree to speaking English in the home, limiting your au pair work to 45 hours per week and only giving you childcare related tasks.
