Undergraduate Entry Requirements

The University of Law's undergraduate courses have specific entry requirements.

The institution accepts a wide ranges of Level 3 qualifications across a range of subject areas, and welcomes applicants who are undertaking A-Levels, BTEC’s, T-Levels, Access, International Baccalaureate as well as many other UCAS Level 3 Tariff qualifications which can be combined to meet the advertised entry criteria.

Law

Degrees with Foundation Year (4 Year On Campus)

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows:

  1. 48 UCAS Points from a maximum of 3 A Levels, or equivalent qualifications

  2. GCSE English Language at Grade C/4

Applicants who do not possess 48 UCAS points from a maximum of 3 A Levels or equivalent but can demonstrate a minimum of 2 years professional work experience evidencing management of people and/or processes and provide a professional reference will be considered.

All applicants must successfully pass a formal interview. Any applicant without GCSE English language at grade C/4 will be invited to complete The University of Law English Test (ULET).

Students under the age of 18 but no younger than 17 at the beginning of the course are permitted.

An English language level equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or above with a minimum of 5.5 in each component is required. "Alternative English language qualifications" are also on offer for alternatives to IELTS, if you are a student whose first language may not be English.

International Foundation Programme 

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows:

  1. An English language level equivalent to IELTS 5.0 or above with a minimum of 4.5 in each component; see "Alternative English language qualifications" for alternatives to IELTS.
  2. Students requiring a Visa who provide IELTS for admission must ensure that they provide the IELTS for UKVI test. The non-UKVI IELTS Academic is only acceptable for the online International Foundation Programme.

Accelerated LLB (Hons) Law

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows:

  1. A Level: ABB

  2. BTEC: DDM
  3. UCAS Tariff Points*: 128 (*From three A Levels or equivalent)
  4. IB: 31
  5. Access: Pass Diploma (60 credits) with 45 credits at Level 3 including 30 credits at Distinctions and 15 credits at Merits
  6. T-Level: Merit with A in Core
  7. Scottish Advanced Highers: BCC
  8. Scottish Highers: AAAB

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English: 

  1. An English language level equivalent to IELTS 7.0 or above, with a minimum of 6.5 in each component; see "Alternative English language qualifications" for alternatives to IELTS.

LLB (Hons) Law (All Qualifying Law Degree courses, including 'Law with' & Online)

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows:

  1. A Level: BBB

  2. BTEC: DDM
  3. UCAS Tariff Points*: 120 (*From three A Levels or equivalent)
  4. IB: 29
  5. Access: Pass Diploma (60 credits) with 45 credits at Level 3 including 24 credits at Distinction and 21 credits at Merit
  6. T-Level: Merit
  7. Scottish Advanced Highers: CCC
  8. Scottish Highers: AABB

You will also need to possess GCSE English Language at Grade C/4 or an equivalent qualification.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English:

  1. An English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component; see "Alternative English language qualifications" for alternatives to IELTS.

Solicitor Apprenticeship (UK Solicitor Apprentices Only)

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows: 

  1. A Level: CCC

  2. BTEC: MMM
  3. UCAS Tariff Points*: 96 (*From three A levels or equivalent)
  4. IB: 26
  5. Access: Pass Diploma (60 credits) with 45 credits at Level 3 including 15 credits at Distinction, 15 credits at Merit and 15 credits at Pass
  6. T-Level: Pass with A*-C in Core

You will also need to possess Grade C/4 or above in 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English Language, or equivalent qualifications.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  1. An English language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component; see "Alternative English language qualifications" for alternatives to IELTS. 

Paralegal Apprenticeship

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows: 

  1. A Level: CDD

  2. BTEC: MMP
  3. UCAS Tariff Points*: 80 (*From three A Levels or equivalent)
  4. IB: 24
  5. Access: Pass Diploma (60 credits) with 45 credits at Level 3 including 30 credits at Merit and 15 credits at Pass
  6. T-Level: Pass with A*-C in Core

You will also need to possess Grade C/4 or above in 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English Language, or equivalent qualifications.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

MLaw (Solicitors' Practice)

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows:

You will also need to possess GCSE English Language at Grade C/4 or an equivalent qualification.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

Business

Degrees with Foundation Year (4 Year On Campus)

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows:

  1. 32 UCAS points from one A Level or 40 UCAS points from two A Levels, or equivalent qualifications

  2. You will also need to possess Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English Language and Grade D/4 or above in GCSE Maths, or equivalent qualifications

Applicants who do not possess 32 UCAS points from the equivalent of one A Level or 40 UCAS points from the equivalent of two A Levels, will instead be invited to a formal interview along with providing two years of appropriate work experience evidenced in a full CV along with two work references.

Applicants must still display the appropriate level of competence in both English Language and Mathematics.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English:

  1. An English language level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or above with a minimum of 5.5 in each component; see "Alternative English language qualifications" or alternatives to IELTS.

Three Year Degrees (On Campus)

The UK Entry Requirements are as follows: 

  1. A Level: BBC

  4. IB: 27
  5. Access: Pass Diploma (60 credits) with 45 credits at Level 3 including 15 credits at Distinction and 30 credits at Merit
  6. T-Level: Merit

You will also need to possess Grade C/4 or above in GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalent qualifications.

Applicants who do not possess BBC at A Level or equivalent, will instead be invited to a formal interview along with providing three years of appropriate work experience evidenced in a full CV along with two work references.

Applicants must still display the appropriate level of competence in both English Language and Mathematics.

Additional note for BSc Accounting and Finance:

Students who have completed ACCA or CIMA to a specified level can gain access to Years 2 or 3;

  1. ACCA F1-F4 – Direct entry to Year 2
  2. CIMA BA1-BA4 – Direct entry to Year 2
  3. ACCA F1-F9 – Direct entry to Year 3

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  1. An English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component; see "Alternative English language qualifications" or alternatives to IELTS.

"We understand there may be times where applicants do not achieve their expected grades or meet the advertised entry requirement for their chosen programme. At the University of Law, this does not automatically mean an applicant will not be accepted," reads the institutions website.

A further review of the application will take place, taking in to account any alternative achievements and merits outlined in the personal statement, supporting reference and any contextual information provided by the student on the application.

"In some cases, this means we will accept applicants on lower tariff/entry grades than published. Where we are not able to offer you your chosen programme we will then consider you for a place on our foundation year programme. If we make an alternative offer, we will notify you of this."
