The University of Kent is a semi-collegiate research university, meaning it is split into a number of different colleges that form smaller academic communities.
Based in Kent, United Kingdom, the university has a main campus in Canterbury, Medway, and Tonbridge with students from 158 different nationalities and 41% of its academic and research staff are from outside the United Kingdom.
The University of Kent has six academic divisions which all have freedom in how they work which allows them to make decisions that best met the needs of their students.
These six academic divisions are as follows:
- Art and Humanities
- study of Law, Society, and Social Justice
- Natural Sciences
- Human and Social Sciences
- Kent Business school
- Computing, Engineering, and Computing Sciences
The University provides students with an inclusive student life which helps them to make life-long friends, discover new interests and learn new skills that set them up for life.
There are endless opportunities for students to join the more than 60 various clubs that the university provides. The sports are represented at a range of levels, from recreational to competitive. In addition, experience is not necessary.
The campus has a selection of shops including a grocery shop, a bookshop and laundrettes. The campus also has a nightclub which is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
Many courses at Kent come with the option of doing a year in industry (also known as a placement year) between the second and final year of your degree course. You’ll spend up to 12 months employed and undertaking graduate-level tasks and projects within a company and the good news is: it counts as part of your degree.
The university also gives students an opportunity to go abroad to experience a different culture, make new friends, develop their language skills, and grow in self-confidence. This also allows them to gain a new academic perspective, establish international contacts and enhance their employability.
One of the university's visions is the assurance that it will be internationally known for a transformative student experience and employability outcomes regardless of background.
Its discoveries and research will emphasize existing and new signature areas, where Kent will match the best in the world. Kent's determination through this vision leaves no choice for its students but to also be determined in whatever strides they wish to attain.
