The Institute of Spring Technology (IST) is a centre for spring technology, that advises and supports businesses in every aspect of the spring supply chain.
The IST helps companies design and manufacture safe, effective and reliable springs through its software, failure analysis and problem-solving, testing services, professional training programs and membership.
From everyday consumer products to industrial equipment, springs are universal in all kinds of machines.
Created by spring experts at the Institute, training courses cover all aspects of spring design including materials, failure analysis and terminology.
Delivered completely remotely (which allows for anyone around the world to join), training at IST allows students and companies to learn in an environment that works best for them.
The Institute offers "tailored" training solutions, meaning participants can build a course that suits their specific needs, which is ideal for organizations and people who do not wish to take part in the IST's open training sessions or are in need of something a little unique.
All of the courses are delivered in English and take place in the United Kingdom's (UK's) time zones.
For all of the courses on offer, you will need:
- A laptop, PC or tablet with a microphone and camera. This is so you can ask questions and interact with the group throughout the course; it’s not essential but it makes for a great course when there are lots of questions.
- A Zoom account
For any course which focuses on spring design with the IST's software, you will need:
- A PC with Windows 8 or higher to run their software
- SCP (Spring Calculator Professional, which is the spring technology software) with the correct module(s) for the course; if you do not have SCP, IST's website offers a free trial.
If you have SCP but not the correct module(s), you can get in touch with IST. The Institute can make any missing modules available to you for the duration of the course.
Spring Technology is made up of Information Technology and Engineering specialities; you can find more careers in the broad field of engineering on the Careers Portal.
