In 1992, LJMU became one of the UK’s new universities, taking its name from one of Liverpool’s great entrepreneurs and philanthropists, Sir John Moores. Liverpool John Moores University is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region but with a global presence.
The university allows you to pick from over 300 undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees and research opportunities which span the Arts, Humanities, Health, Education, Engineering, Technology and Science.
It also allows International students to prepare for their degrees through a platform called The International study Centre which is a year programme that consists of academic modules, study skills and English language training, designed to ensure that new students have the required skills to succeed when they start their degree at LJMU. The International Study Centre also runs pre-sessional English courses.
The university's other ways of getting students to challenge themselves, meet people who share the same interest and in overall make them feel more connected to the university communtity, LJMU offers sports, clubs and societies.
It has two main campuses which provide a modern and inspiring learning space for all of its students. The university describes its campuses as a bursting hive of activity. People will be studying, chatting over a coffee, relaxing with friends or taking part in one of the university's events. There's friendly debates between academics, people talking to student reps and study groups working on joint projects.
Interestingly, Some of Liverpool’s most impressive attractions are just a short walk from LJMU'S City Campus, including: Central Library, the Walker Art Gallery, the World Museum and St George’s Hall.
As a new student at LJMU, accommodation right in the heart of the dynamic city centre, with easy access to the main University campuses is guaranteed.
All full-time International students request accommodation through the same process as UK students, and each year LJMU sets aside rooms for new postgraduate and mature students too. The accommodation offered are in ‘halls’ – large blocks of flats designed to meet the needs of modern student life.
The university also awards a range of international scholarships for students enrolling at the University each September. These prestigious awards take the form of partial tuition fee scholarships and are available for outstanding international students applying for undergraduate courses and postgraduate taught programmes.
