Newcastle University has a long, extensive history of producing quality education in the UK, and continues to do so almost two centuries after the first college to be integrated into the university, was founded.
The first institution that made up what we now know as Newcastle University, was known as King’s College, established in 1971, and came about as a merger between a School of Medicine dating back to 1834 and Armstrong College founded in 1871.
The college, which developed to become a strong civic institution, eventually evolved to university status in 1963, and has since continued to offer quality education to each of its students as Newcastle University.
As a result, the institution’s long history has allowed it to remain at the forefront of quality education and research, earning it a place in the prestigious Russell Group, an organisation of universities in the UK that have historically had an immense social, cultural and economic impact, and who have produced a large portion of world-leading research.
With this, the university has also had the privilege of being recognised at the top of many university rankings who have recognised their educational value. For one, the university is one of 12 universities worldwide to attain a five-plus star QS ranking, meaning that Newcastle University’s performance is ranked among the top of the hundreds of universities that have signed on for their own star rating.
And if that were not enough, the university has also consistently been ranked among the top 200 universities worldwide, with its efforts in sustainable development being ranked in the eighth position across the world.
