The Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) may have only been established in 1992, the university can trace its roots back almost 200 years when the Liverpool Mechanics and Apprentices Library was created in the early 1800s.
LJMU has made it its mission to serve the surrounding communities, enrich the lives of people they work with and act as an anchor institution in the City of Liverpool.
While this mission remains at the heart of what the institution wants to achieve, the university introduced five-year planning cycles to continue evolving into today's modern civic university with ambitious plans for the future.
Our mission, rooted in our place in the city, the academic endeavours of our staff and students and the positive impact we have in our communities, continues to reflect our ongoing commitment to the transforming power of education and to the themes of innovation, aspiration and inspiration
LJMU offers a wide range of academic programmes in several learning subjects. These areas include science, mathematics, media and law, architecture, art and design, astronomy, business, management and marketing, chemistry, computing, criminology, education, engineering, English literature and creative writing.
