The International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO) has a mission to help individuals build their knowledge and skills on a range of topics through training. This training is delivered online, face-to-face on campus, and in the field.

Individuals may have in-person and distance learning combined into a hybrid, multi-step learning journey. These flexible training options, including mobile-first courses, webinars, free self-guided modules, and more.

The Centre also works with its partners to come up with the journey, process, and content for these customised experiences.

The Learning Innovation officer at ITCILO, Alessia Messuti said they create a new course with their partners, they want to be able to make decisions and perform actions, not just repeat knowledge.

In a statement, ITC announced:

Today’s learners are tech-savvy and ready to co-create their learning journeys.

From 2018 to 2019, more than 60% of the training activities were tailor-made and the Centre has since reached tens of thousands of learners per year with the customised courses.

According to the Executive Director of the National Council of Employers of Togo, Têvi Tete-Benissan, the training has assisted the participants in reaching their goals by implementing and applying relevant experiences to their current contexts.

Tete-Benissan also shared that the training allowed them (organisation) to exchange experiences and best practices with various employers’ organisations.

Here are some of the benefits of the customised training courses

  1. Customized training courses and materials are more effective than off-the-shelf content because they are learner-centric.
  2. If an organization has specific training needs, then this is a solution for the prospective and existing employees.
  3. The Centre takes the time to understand the participants skills, schedules, and learning needs, and deliver the training in a way that makes sense for the individual.

Messuti believes that learning is equal to content, practice, coaching, and feedback combined together. It is for this reason that students are assisted to build their knowledge and skills on a range of relevant topics through innovative training activities.

The Centre has an offering of courses that cover topics like employment promotion, international labour standards, social protection, social dialogue, innovation, gender equality and diversity, sustainable development, and the future of work.
