Study Liberal Arts At Belmont Abbey College

Religion and the Arts both function as expressive forms for individuals to indulge in, and converging the two can influence an interesting engagement. Belmont Abbey College attempts to perform this combination by joining these expressive forms in such a way that its students can engage in the arts, whilst maintaining their religious beliefs at the centre of their studies.

Belmont Abbey College is a Catholic Christian institution of higher learning located in Belmont, North Carolina, that attempts to teach liberal arts, with the word of Christ at its centre. They state their goals as being centred upon the holistic development of mind, body, and soul.

Being that the college’s teaching efforts hold Catholic and Benedictine values at their heart, the institution attempts to enact these values in all the professions that they prepare their students to enter into. The college notes its practice of Benedictine principles paired with its teaching in the liberal arts as marking their efforts as “a responsible steward of the true, the beautiful, and the good”.

With the college’s emphasis on the importance of the Christian religion, enrolled students will have the opportunity to study whilst having close access to monasteries, basilicas, and other spaces of worship on and around campus grounds. Moreover, the college also attempts to foster an environment for collaboration and giving back, offering many school clubs and volunteer opportunities.

These clubs and organisations vary between the following categories:

  • Advocacy, Volunteering, Fundraising and Faith
  • Arts and Culture: Includes clubs and organisations such as Abbey Dancers, Abbey Chorus, Abbey Instrumental Ensemble, Art Club, Black Student Alliance, Ballroom Dancing Club and Estamos Juntos which is dedicated to promoting hispanic and latino culture
  • Honorary Societies: Includes the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society for student athletes with a GPA of at least 3.4
  • Publications and Media: Includes their Agora Literary Magazine and their Crusader Newspaper
  • Social Groups: Includes groups for activity organisation, business-related organisations, skills development clubs, and game and activities clubs
  • Special Interests: Include the Debate Team, Football Interest Club, Math Club, Motorsport Club, and Psychology club

However, students do not enrol for the clubs and organizations alone, as the main objective is to earn a quality education. Luckily though, the college also offers various programmes of study to choose from, including, but not exclusive to the liberal arts, which they divide between major, minor, pre-professional, professional, and graduate courses.
