Since its inception, Falmouth University has built its policies, teachings, and values around the transformative potentials, and the promotion of the importance of the art industry. As such, the university began solely as a project to allow students to harness their skills in art and possibly apply these learned skills to many other facets of study and education.
The Falmouth Art School was one of the few of its kind to open over 100 years ago in 1902. Despite having aims towards including technical subjects alongside their art subject focusses, the university knew from very early on that they wished to prioritise art as a medium of knowledge and understanding.
The Art School began with the teachings of such subjects as still-life painting and freehand drawing, and later extended to a more vast scope of drawing and painting, with the added inclusion of applied arts subjects such as leatherwork, metalwork, wood carving, stencilling and marquetry. As the school began to enter the latter half of the 20th century, more digital and print art mediums were being introduced, further broadening the scope of artistic focus that the school offered its students.
Today, the Art University boasts art qualifications available throughout various mediums of art, whether in print, digital, media and communication, film, or performance arts. These courses, which vary from short courses to postgraduate degrees, are available among the following subjects:

As visible above, students are afforded the opportunity to study certain courses online as well as in-person, with the university adapting to the digital age of education that the world has entered into, whilst also offering opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning. Those who engage in this experiential learning will be able to do so between the university’s two campuses: Falmouth Campus and Penryn Campus, which are a historical campus and a creative hub respectively.
Facilities offered to students by the institution accommodate each and every subject available, and they include the following: Art and Design, Fashion and Textiles, Games Academy, Library, Media Equipment, Performance, Photography, Printmaking, and Sports facilities. Furthermore, the university also harbours ample opportunity to get food, entertainment and drinks in and around the campuses, and includes a Green Space for students to indulge in the rich heritage and beautiful environment that Falmouth has to offer.
